BALTIMORE– (December 1, 2017) Attorney Scott H. Marder has joined the law firm Thomas & Libowitz, P.A., as a shareholder.
A litigator licensed to practice in Maryland and Florida, Marder is a veteran of over 100 trials, most of them before juries. He has significant experience in the banking, real estate, construction, and gaming industries.
“Scott adds even greater depth to our bench of seasoned trial lawyers whose focus is finding cost effective solutions to business problems and disputes,” said Steve Thomas, managing partner.
Marder has served as lead counsel in cases with damages up to $1 billion, involving breach of contract, fraud, unfair and deceptive trade practices, conspiracy, breach of fiduciary duty, directors and officers liability, attorney professional liability, insurance coverage disputes, mechanics liens, construction defect and delay claims, bid protests, shareholder derivative actions, and Fair Credit Reporting Act and Fair Debt Collection Practices Act litigation for some of the nation’s largest and most successful businesses.
Scott served for over four years as senior in-house counsel of a well-known and successful real estate and gaming company where he gained extensive experience in the business and legal issues that arise in the development and operation of commercial and Native American casinos and hotels. While in Maryland he also has represented clients in connection with the Maryland gaming licensure process.
Prior to entering private practice, Scott served for six years as an assistant state attorney for the Eleventh Judicial Circuit, in Miami, Florida. He graduated magna cum laude from the University of Miami School of Law, in 1991, where he was associate editor of the University of Miami Inter-American Law Review, president of the Moot Court Board and elected to the Order of the Coif. Scott received his B.S., with honors, from Florida International University in 1987.
